I was really hoping for a book that would teach me how to use a tool like excel and powerpoint to bring out really creative ways to create and demonstrate business trends via clever imaging techniques. In that regard, it falls WAY short. pics are few and far between. No examples that really pop. seems outdated.

Felt like a bad textbook to me. I’m sure for other folks, this may be very useful but as a business person looking to communicate with others better, it missed the mark badly.

Additional note: it is VERY expensive. Had i had a chance to review it earlier, i might have thought differently. Certainly, all books have a purpose. This one just didn’t meet mine. If your goals are different, please view this review in that context.

Have you ever witnessed a presenta-tion and seen charts that don’t seem to ap-ply to anything in the world, much less the business at hand? You often recognize the ledgers, but no matter how many slick graphics and overlays the presenter shows, the results are mumbo-jumbo, guaranteed to put you asleep faster than a foreign film without subtitles. Stephen Few feels your pain. He understands that charts are designed to visually communicate greater concepts, and in Show Me the Numbers, he’s made a science of effective visual data presentations.

This is a great book which clearly elucidates design principles. The fact that all the graphs explained are created in Excel also makes the book more practicable.

This book not only spelled out the laws, but made recommendation and precautions landlords should watch out, but most importantly what a landlord should do from a preventative perspective. In addition, it provided templates of all the necessary documents and forms.

If I could ask for my money back, I would. Don’t be fooled by the substantial number of positive reviews. The book is very basic and contains little substantial information. The author allocates a lot of space to elementary material (distinction between median, mean, mode, etc.) and most of the tables and graphs presented are also very basic. On occasion, I felt treated like a five-year old (don’t use blue lettering on black background – duh). I don’t see how any of the tables and graphs are really particularly enlightening (which is what Few states as a goal on the cover). For that, the data presented in the tables and graphs is much too simple. Compared to the books by Tufte, there’s really nothing substantial or new in this book. My recommendation is that you don’t buy the book and spend your money instead on one or more of the books by Tufte. They may be more challenging to read, but much more rewarding (not to mention extraordinarily beautiful and outstanding value for money). Contrary to what the first blurb on the back of this book says, the books by Tufte contain plenty of practical advice.
